Let’s get personal. Ever since our trip to China and the squatting toilet horror incident of 2010, I take a spare roll of toilet paper where ever we travel. Long story short, I got peed on at the Summer Palace and because there wasn’t any toilet paper or paper towels, I had nothing but a few tissues to wash off my leg. Oh, and the pee wasn’t mine– it came from the person’s hole next to me!  This gives me the willies just typing it out! Needless to say, this incident had a huge effect on me, basically limiting the amount of liquid I was drinking just so that I wouldn’t have to go to the bathroom.

Slowly I became more accustomed to squatting toilets and how to properly avoid getting peed on. I even watched a video on youtube about how to train your muscles in your thighs for using squatting toilets and how to wait until there isn’t someone next to you before going!  My travel pack included an entire roll of toilet paper incase anyone in our group needed some.  Even though I was only in China for a week, whenever I saw the sign for “Western Style” bathrooms, I was so incredibly happy. (It’s the little things, right?!)

On our recent road trip from LA to Colorado, we visited several national parks in Utah that also didn’t have toilet paper, but this time we came prepared.
