Vagabond3 Project

Vagabond3 Project

We’re Rob, Jade, and Bob, the founders/writers/editors of this site. We’ve started Vagabond3 as a sharing place for our world adventure, lessons learned, and tips for improving the trips of others. Through travel reports, interviews, photos, and videos, we want to bring you along on our globe-trotting journey.

Where did this idea come from?

We decided to launch Vagabond3 after several months of dreaming and “Hey, we could do that!” conversations. Back in August 2009, Rob – a sarcastic, fun loving braggart – entered and won a Twitter contest for a 3-day trip to Sydney, Australia. But there was a catch: he would have to send a tweet once each minute while on the trip – for a total of 4,320 tweets! He would get to bring two friends with him to help accomplish the challenge; enter in the friends: Jade – a sassy, spunky cutie – and Bob – a wide-eyed adventure seeker. Together as a team, we were able to tweet up a storm – no bleeding fingers here! – and successfully complete the tweeting mission. As our reward, we received 3 around-the-world flights compliments of VAustralia and their partner Virgin Airlines. And now, with airfare to cities including Sydney, Hong Kong, and Tokyo, we’re getting ready to discover the world!

Navigating the site

Preparing for and embarking on a world trip are daunting tasks, and at the very least we don’t want you getting confused about how best to use this web site. Vagabond3 is organized to allow you to explore in multiple ways, depending on your preference; you can browse by Place (selecting a city/country that we’ve visited to find out what we saw and did there), or Activity (some cities we explore in a “24 hour adventure” format, others in an “A-to-Z” style, and others in local one-on-one interview form). Additionally, we post a wide variety of Resources that are helpful for local and global travelers alike. The best way to navigate is by using the topic navigation towards the top of this page. By clicking on “Featured,” “Places,” “Activities,” etc., you’ll see a listing of all the postings we’ve made that relate to that topic.

How YOU can help!

We really want Vagabond3 to be a useful resource, and we need your help to make it happen. Here are ways that you can help us to make this site the best that it can be…

  • Please comment on our posts – let us know your thoughts, and give us feedback. Have tips for a city? Want to show us your favorite spots? Know where not to go? We want to hear all about it, and commenting is a great way to share what you think.
  • Spread the word – if you like what we’re doing, please tell others about our project! You can submit our articles to Twitter, Facebook, and other social networking sites with a single click.
  • Become a Local Correspondent – we’re still putting together the details, but we’ll be looking for local citizens to volunteer as digital guides for each city we visit. If you know your city forwards and backwards, and we’re paying a visit to your neck of the woods, we want to talk to you.

Start exploring!

That’s definitely enough introduction. Thanks for paying us a visit, and we hope you enjoy sharing the many cities and cultures of the world with us! If you want to see the latest and greatest on Vagabond3, click here for our newest postings.
