
Bolt the Dog in his Carrier.
While visiting my family in Florida, my dog Bolt managed to unzip my purse, dig out a sealed plastic bag and open a “dog proof” medicine holder— the same medicine holder that had all his sedative for our return flight. Needless to say, the flight back to Los Angeles was horrible. Besides being delayed and having two flights cancelled, my dog was going crazy. It was a stressful situation. Everyone who owns pets is faced with the same dilemma: what to do with them if you travel. Most of my life, I thought people who traveled with their dogs and cats were a little crazy, but now I have become one of those people. I was heading for a two week long Christmas vacation, and it was much cheaper to fly my dogs across the country than to leave them in a kennel. Adding to that, both of my dogs are rescues and have relatively severe kennel anxiety. It’s been two years now since my first flight with them, and while I don’t take them on every trip, it benefits both me and my dogs to bring them along on trips longer than a couple of days.
