Beach with Umbrella

If you’re looking to holiday somewhere further afield this year for guaranteed sunshine and soft warm sands, but you don’t want to break the bank, cheap holidays to Dominican Republic are available to book online. The second largest Caribbean nation offers sublime crystal clear beaches, laid-back beats and a friendly welcome.  Beach lovers are in their element here but don’t dismay, if you’re one for adventure and discovery this place will certainly not disappoint. Puerto Plata is a town well worth visiting, here you will find a seafront fortress and a rum factory but the most popular attraction has to be the cable car, which climbs to a staggering 800 meters to the top of Mount Isabel del Torres where the views are fantastic.

Colonial cities are dotted all over and are lovely to stroll around, admiring the architecture whilst enjoying a bite to eat Dominican style. The local cuisine consists of an authentic mix of Spanish, Indian and African ingredients giving the traditional fare its own unique personality. Most dishes on a typical Dominican menu consist of rice, meat, beans and vegetables but lots of choice is on offer, with popular international dishes available too – perfect for little fussy eaters.  On the eastern tip of the island is Punta Cana, boasting a 50km stretch of pure white sands. Golfers will be in their element at the Punta Cana Golf Club where they can tee off with fabulous sea views. Bavaro is the liveliest resort but if you’re after a peaceful retreat Uvero Alto is a calm and sleepy resort.

All-inclusive resorts offer a great, money-saving choice and cater for both couples and families alike. Some have on-site spas and adult-only focused facilities, while others welcome families with fun pools and family entertainment. Families will have no time to be bored with the variety of activities on offer from watersports to day trips, including the fantastic Ocean World which has an adventure park, marina and casino – something to keep everyone in the party happy! There are also some great boat trips to try which take you to picture perfect little islands where you can discover tropical sea life and colourful coral reefs.  The temperatures are tropical, with all year round sunshine hitting average temperatures of between 24°-29°. May to November sees the rainy season, so although you will bag a low price, be prepared for wet humid conditions.
