Last Friday, Bob and drove to Pomona for the LA County Fair. After 2 hours in the car (for a 35 mile trip), we arrived and immediately went to the pig races. This was on Bob’s must do list for the Fair. I didn’t realize he had a ‘must-do’ Fair list, but he did and it included pig races, turkey legs, deep fried oreos and scary rides that swing you back and forth.
The pig races were cute- the pigs ran a lot faster than I thought they would- the chickens barely walked around the small track but we screamed for our bird as he took his time. None of our animals won. They were just beat out by the green team- darn!
Afterwards, we met up with Rob and Amber (who had an equally awful drive), and made a beeline to more deep fried, chocolate covered, bacon infused, donut holed food. Rob had the Krispy Kreme double cheeseburger. Yup, as good as it sounds. Bob had the giant ‘turkey’ leg (what exactly are they…) and Amber had the BBQ chicken. I had pulled pork on waffle fries with lots of BBQ sauce. They were amazing. Exactly what you want to eat when you’re cheating on your diet.
We road one ride- this swing, spinning thing that rose up way above all the other rides and we got a pretty cool view of the Fairgrounds. We also watched a dog pirate show- less pirate focused, more frisbee jumping.
After it got dark, Bob and I said goodbye to Rob and Amber and made our way to the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert. Which was full of die hard Lynyrd Skynyrd fans, rednecks and crazy people- but we had a great time. Bob noted that the three guitarists were amazing and that what they did was basically impossible and I should be very impressed. Eh, seemed and sounded good to me although I don’t the technicality of the thing.
All in all, we had a great time at the Fair (especially once we were out of that horrible traffic and could actually enjoy ourselves). Plus, it was our 5 month-iversary. So, yay, we’ve made it this far! 🙂
