Travel + Taste the World (without leaving your house)

Reading to Augustine

#KidAugustine already has a bucket list a mile long. After her first flight a few weeks ago, all she has been talking about is planning her next big trip. At least that’s what I think she’s saying, you know she’s only 4 months old and all.

Until the next trip and to hold her off from just packing her whale suitcase and traveling around the world, we discovered Hole in Wall Box. A subscription box service that ‘travels the world’ for you. Searching out local products and unique gifts, Hole in the Wall delivers off the beaten path goodies to your door step every other month.

Their first box was all about San Diego (you can see some of the fun items from Kristin’s box) and next up was Seattle. The box arrived to our mailbox – yes, it fit perfectly in a standard mailbox- and we popped it open.

Before we even opened it I loved the packaging. Super cute design and filled to the top with fresh, perfectly sized gifts.

Our box included Holmquist Hazelnut orange honey hazelnuts based in Lynden Washington, Tiny’s Organic Bosc dried pears from Rock Island, jonboy whiskey & smoked salt caramels from Seattle, Boehm’s Candies milk chocolate bar from Issaquah, Chukar Pinot Noir dark chocolate cherries (Bob’s favorite), Seattle Salt flavored lavender, sage and thyme salts, Moon Valley organic lip balm and Hemp lotion Whidbey Island. Each item was selected by Hole in Wall founders after getting personal recommendations about the best ‘hole in wall’ artisans and treats around the Seattle area.

Each item supports local makers whose goodies might normally only reach local Washington farmers markets and shops. Hole in Wall then shares those incredible finds with us.

While we’ve tried other subscription boxes before, I really love how each item in Hole in Wall boxes are by local makers and really seem like your best friend picked them out for you. Also- now we’re totally hooked on those Pinot Noir Cherries.

Even #KidAugustine is very curious about what’s inside the box!

The founders are passionate travelers and research each destination thoroughly before traveling there themselves to scour the city for the best finds. In addition, box subscribers are encouraged to send recommendations from their favorite cities. Meaning, if you know of a great small shop, local artisan or maker who you think would be a great addition to a Hole in the Wall box, send that suggestion their way. It might even make it into the next box!

So how do the boxes work? You can subscribe at any time and the price depends on how many boxes you order (the more boxes, the less each box cost you). One box starts at $35+ shipping, three boxes at #32.50 and 6 boxes are $30 each. I think these would make awesome gifts too- a sweet surprise in the mail every other month.
