When we moved into our new apartment, we were in love. I couldn’t believe how much natural light all the windows in living room let in. The hard wood floors were original and gorgeous. The wainscoting in the living room was as if Southern Living and Coastal Living Magazines had a bold sophisticated baby. The staircase was iron and whimsy at the same time. With everything that I loved, I hated the color in the kitchen. It was this weird gold yellow that might have looked good 20 years ago when it was first painted, but now it just looked old and dingy. (Before shots of the kitchen here)
Fast forward two months and here is the new kitchen. We added a new coat of bright white paint all over and mint green throughout for a punch of color. I ombre’ed four cabinets on the main kitchen wall and we cleaned up a lot of old paint that was clipping inside the cabinets. Our map brought a lot of color with little energy (just a nail and hammer and instantly the space was brighter and fun). The other details were bought over time & almost take on a nautical feel. (The crab pot holder, the fish sponge holder, the flamingo tape, turtle bottle opener, we even have my grandmother’s Ponte Vedra grocery bag out on display.)
It’s bright, it’s super colorful and you can actually cook in there! This kitchen makes me so happy. And for someone who loves food but hates cooking, I need the kitchen to be a happy space.
There is still a few more things I plan on doing in here:
- Add a shelf above the oven.
- Frame vintage Florida fruit labels that I bought from the Rose Bowl Flea Market
- buy a natural jute rug to go under the kitchen table.
- Take a photo of our fridge, which is covered in travel photos- oops!
Bolt the dog stretching out in the kitchen, one of his favorite places.
(1st picture: wine glasses that were gifts from our wedding, a mexican hat that was on a bottle of tequila a friend brought us back, paper straws that are perfect for making a Monday feel like a party, polka dot napkins in my favorite colors. 2nd picture: YUM sign from Target, they also have an EAT sign, but I always say YUM, so it was perfect, Anthropologie table cloth that I bought on a ridiculous sale, blue chairs from World Market, that again I bought on sale, the table was bought in IKEAs As-Is section, you guessed it, on sale.)
(1st picture: USA cutting board from Target, guacamole mixer Bob bought me, colorful mixing bowls. 2nd picture: Ponte Vedra grocery bag from my grandmothers house, flowers from our local farmers market, coconut candle from our trip to Maui, garden stool from Home Goods, paper flowers off window, Mexican paper flowers from Olvera Street in Downtown LA)
