This week’s topic on Traveler’s Night In, a tweet-up for travelers, was Sailing and Cruises. Ten questions were asked and tagged #TNI- here are the questions:
Q1: Sailing is a timeless & romantic way to travel. Have you ever sailed? Where?
@MiddleSeatView – Love sailing – cruising & smaller boats! Mine & hubby’s first cruise was on our honeymoon to Europe – tres romantic!
@LiveshareTravel – Can I claim the sunset cruise on my wedding day? How’s that for romance?
@Kymri – it’s all coming back now – also sailed at summer camps on Big Bear Lake, Ca
Q2: most important when choosing a destination: adventure, culture, cuisine & wine or?
@MalloryOnTravel – Silly question the chance of adventure all the rest will fall into place!
@JustinHamlin – wine, Definitely wine. and as a fallback, beer. Cheese works too. Or wine. Definitely wine.
@travelswtavel – Food is very important, but the most important thing to me is how will it challenge me or affect me in a new way.
@DoriTravel – In no particular order: wildlife, adventure, culture, ancient sites
@hejorama – A good adventure always leads to all the rest…
Q3: What’s the advantage of cruising over other travel methods?
@MiraCristine – you can see more places in a short amount of time
@Addict_nerd – Unpack once. Room moves with you. Sample lots of places see if you like them. Amazing food included. Friendly people.
@ACarlton – Definitely the all-inclusiveness of it except for the excursions. Free food and entertainment on-board.
@Eurapart – On a sailing cruise ship. There is the low carbon footprint. The romance, and you go wherever the wind takes you.
@girlsgetaway – I told my husband that we were going spend our last years on a cruise ship not a nursing home 🙂
Q4: If you had 1 day/night in St. Petersburg, how would you spend it?
@innalameda – St. Petersburg Russia, the Hermitage. St. Petersburg Florida, the Dali Museum
@PRDH Depends if it were winter or summer. Darkness or sun. I’d probably do something to do with the history and architecture though.
@katrinaMauro Um, drinking Vodka? (If I at all liked vodka)
@santafetraveler Touring old churches, palaces, the Hermitage. Plus checking out the river. maybe literary sites.
@driftingfocus track down my relatives.
Q5: Most adventurous port-of-call you’ve visited?
@Banff_Squirrel Ocean Falls, BC. So-named for the 14 feet of rain each year. Locals toss umbrellas overboard when they leave.
@anyaosk Dubrovnik impressed me the most! Such a beautiful medieval fortress.
@rtwdave The only cruise I’ve taken was up the Nile River, so I’m going with Aswan, Egypt.
@wherechugo On our 1st trip to Antarctica we had to improvise 1 landing due to an emergency assist call: a rock big enough for 12 to stand on
Q. 6: How do you stay healthy & fit while traveling or cruising?
@shipsandtrips I find the longest conga line and the lowest limbo pole, and get my cardio on…
@aadhuu Walking, Trekking, Swimming… any kind of physical activity will do
@hartmannluggage ping-pong anyone?
@AryCancun Try yoga & meditation. It helps both to stay healthy and stress free.
@thecitizeNY liquid diet (aka booze)
Q. 7: One tip you’d share with 1st time cruisers?
@stayadventurous Don’t focus on the excursions, but enjoy time at sea.
@teamcocktail ***don’t wear socks with your sandals***
@flyingphotog Become friends with your stateroom attendant and barkeeper. Respect them and they will treat you very well.
@addict_nerd Bring a power bar, there really is just one outlet. It’s not as dressy as you think. Do your research & make your own judgements.
@malloryontravel make sure they have an iceberg detection system that works and know where the life rafts are
@nomadkeith Take half the clothes you think you’ll need and twice the clothes.
Q. 8: Best way to spend a day at sea?
@zipsetcaitlin Working on your tan while enjoying a nice frozen drink
@landlopers Spa, Pool, various activities around ship, overall just relaxing.
@magellanPR On a lounger, drink close to hand, good novel, looking out to sea- oh could do that right now
@zipsetrachel I like to keep it consistant: nap, eat, spa, & repeat.
@theflaggagency Best way to spend a day at sea is spending time with your family, no phones, no twitter, no facebook, just family.
Q.9: Must have on-board or cabin amenity when selecting a cruise?
@mygo2it Wine opener
@packdsuitcase Windows. Gotta have windows or else I’ll go sea-crazy.
@SEASUNdodger A palm-frond waver… those exist, right?
@travelproducer Cabin must have a balcony or ocean view. No inside cabins for me. Not an amenity, but a requirement.
@only398 iTouch or other mp3 device.
Q. 10: Which Scandinavian capitals would you like to visit and why?
@sophieR Everyone better say Oslo now!
@RickGriffin: Any!! Because I’ve never been. #bucketlist
@corktobelfast As many as possible. Reason: wanderlust.
@justinhamlin Finland, so I could show everyone my picture with Teemu Selanne and be treated like royalty! LOL
@moonstruckB All of them! But I’d say Oslo because a flight there from the UK is about 9 pounds.
