It’s been about two months since we’ve returned from our RTW journey and I’ve sat up many nights reliving the whole experience. Watching the videos and sorting through thousands of photos, I’ve had time to reflect on our amazing experience. Through kangaroo feedings, haggling in Hong Kong, climbing a mountain and flying all across the world, here are 25 things I learned about myself after my RTW trip!
.) I’m brave. I’m much braver than I thought I was, I mean- We climbed Mt. Fuji in the OFF SEASON!!
.) I hate being lost, but I love finding my way.
.) I missed my dogs.
.) I’ll try any food at least once- except dog. I will forever be grateful for the Chinese guy who, knowing hardly any English, pointed out on the menu what meat was dog and what was steak.
.) I wish I spoke another language… actually, many other languages. Almost every city we were in the locals could speak multiple languages.
.) As much as I love traveling, I really love having a home to return to.
.) I like personal space- I don’t appreciate being touched, licked and grabbed.
.) I’m absolutely, 100% dependent on my iPhone and the ability to check the weather, my email and news anywhere and anytime I want.
.) I love pork buns.
.) I love sharing my experiences and meeting other travelers.
.) Australia was just as fantastic as I dreamed it would be.
.) I hate confrontations but I’ll speak my mind. I don’t like the feeling that I’m being taken advantage of just because I’m a tourist. Don’t try to up-sell me or send me on a unwarranted detour.
.) I appreciate westernized toilets. I like privacy!
.) I don’t trust people who don’t like animals. (You don’t have to love them as much as I do- but don’t treat them poorly.)
.) Living in America, I have things pretty good. I have to remind myself not to take the simple things for granted.
.) I have a lot of different interest and want to explore them all.
.) Even though I can live out of a suitcase– I don’t want to long term!
.) I love Diet Coke- American Diet Coke.
.) I can not only set a budget, but stick to it. Every couple of days, we would check in and make sure we were still on track. This was great because we never felt like we had to miss out on something we really wanted to do because we had planned accordingly.
.) I like being challenged. I’ll climb a mountain, jump off cliffs, take a cab after midnight in Beijing… I might be scared doing it, but I enjoy the thrill of conquering it!
.) I’ll never out-grow Disney World! One of our best days in Tokyo was when we spent the day at Tokyo DisneySea.
.) I discovered the value of a good friend.
.) I get super stressed out if I’m running late to anything- especially to our flights. Needless to say, we started arriving at the airports about 4 hours early!
.) I really love tacos.
.) I want to travel more.
As much traveling as I’ve done in my life, the world only seems to get bigger. I have added dozens of cities to my bucket-list and hundreds of encounters and activities to try. I can’t wait for my next Round the World trip. Who’s with me?
