Next in the 30 for 30 challenge, I’ll be traveling north-east of Hollywood to the Pasadena area. Even though the challenge is about creating different outfits, this is still a travel blog!
Ah, the Rose Bowl. I’m a HUGE college football fan and having a bowl game so close to home is awesome come end of the season. If you don’t like football, you’ve probably still heard about the Rose Bowl if for just The Rose Parade and Tournament of Roses. The parade is watched by millions of people every year and it’s pretty amazing what the floats look like once covered with all those roses.
The stadium was built in 1922 and is home to UCLA games, concerts (U2 recently performed there), a huge 4th of July celebration and the “largest flea market in the world”. It has gained world recognition by hosting 5 Super Bowl games, the men’s and women’s World Cup and the 1984 Olympic soccer matches.
Our trip was a little less about football, and more about visiting the nearby grounds and sports areas. There is a track that runs along the entire outside and was quite busy for a Monday afternoon. Construction workers were also busy working on the new $152 million dollar renovation that just started in January 2011.
Fun Facts:
- It first rained on the Parade in 1955!
- The field has natural grass.
- Approx. 90,000 people can seat in the Stadium.
- There are over 100 different varieties of Rose bushes along the Stadium.
- The first game was played in 1902.
Outfit details: Skirt (Gap), Shirt, Oxfords (Urban Outfitters), Belt (JCrew), Scarf (bought in Spain & same as I wore on Day 6). The temperature has been crazy in Southern California this weekend. It was a high of 75, but in the shadows it got a little chilly. I’m not complaining- at all- just saying that while the skirt was good for running around in, I felt prepared for a cool breeze with the help of my long sleeves and scarf.
Have you been to a Bowl Game Stadium? Ever been to the Rose Bowl?
