Travel Planning Tips & Tricks: #1 Tip on How to Book Travel & Save Money

Thank you Expedia for sponsoring this post. Book your travel on Expedia.com to save with the Add-On Advantage!

Travel planning can give even the most seasoned traveler anxiety. There are countless decisions to make and every single day you wait to book, you are paying more for the same travel days and experience. I feel like the anxiety is especially strong when it’s a trip that I really want to take, like an anniversary trip or big celebration.

This year Bob and I celebrated 5 years of wedded bliss and my mom turned 60 years young- two very big milestones. I knew we needed to start planning her birthday trip and an anniversary trip right around the same time.

When I started looking into travel arrangements, I logged into Expedia (like I do for every single trip- business or for fun). I’m an Expedia Gold member, which comes with loyalty perks like hotel upgrades when available and VIP check-in, which many times includes wine or champagne and late check-outs, but this time I wanted to investigate booking the flights with a car rental or hotel add-on and see what the price difference would be once all totaled together.

So here’s my #1 booking tip: Booking a flight, car or package with Expedia unlocks hotel discounts until the start of your trip, so with Expedia Add-On Advantage you can take all the time you need to research the perfect hotel at the perfect price. I like to call myself an overachiever when it comes to researching cool hotels, so Expedia Add-On Advantage takes the pressure off planning and paying for your entire trip all at once. Genius!

After you booked your flights, you’ll get an email that says you’ve unlocked the Add-on Advantage and you can then go back into your Expedia account, search for hotels and find ones that include the Add-On Advantage code. Super easy and tons of options.

I was able to book our flights and get an incredible hotel and car rental discount, saving almost $750 dollars than if I had just booked them all separately. $750 dollars is enough to plan another vacation!

To recap: I booked our entire family’s vacation to Florida to celebrate my mom’s 60th AND booked our anniversary trip to Napa Valley wine country with the amount of money I would have paid just for one of the trips. Woohoo! I seriously felt like I was on a high- this new feature just conquered the whole travel-booking-anxiety forever.

My mom’s 60th was a blast – with our whole family spending five glorious days at the beach, stretching out the birthday to a whole week celebration. We booked a photographer to capture some family photos so that we’ll never forget that special weekend – something I now want to do on every family vacation!

While travel planning can be stress-inducing, it can be easy. With a few simple tips you can save time and money, money that can go towards your next vacation! I’m already scheming up our next adventure.
