The first weeks challenge of the “Travel your own city” series came from what Bob and I found ourselves doing in every city on our RTW trip. Without fail, we were climbing some mountain, walking across a very tall bridge or riding an elevator to the highest floor in a building in order to see views of the city from every angle! What views does your city have to offer?
Week 1: View your city from above!
We took the challenge to one of my favorite spots in Los Angeles even though I hardly ever visit. The views from The Getty Center really don’t get any better. On a clear day, you can see all the way from the ocean to downtown and every little neighborhood in between. The Getty museum is a massive complex at the top of a mountain. It has gorgeous gardens, four huge wings of art from early Greek history to more recent modern art from local artists. One of the best parts about The Getty is that it is FREE! You have to pay to park, but once you do entry to the museums, gardens and exhibits are all free! (And, if you go after 5pm- parking is free, too!)
The garden and water sculpture area has the best view of the sunset over the ocean. I’d suggest buying some wine from one of the cafes in the museum (yes- there is wine here!) and toasting at sunset.
And, that’s my city from above! If you are joining in the challenge- put your link (or tweet it to me) in the comments below so we can recap all the different cities views!
