Traveler’s Night In: Bahamas Edition

This week’s topic on Traveler’s Night In, a “tweet-up” discussion for travelers, was the Bahamas.  Ten questions were asked, tagged #TNI, and afterwards I was craving a huge pina colada while swinging on a hammock with ocean views!  There were several trends that kept coming up today: #TNIer’s like to drink (swim up bar, anyone?!), have no idea what Conch Fritters are, and would love a Bahamas vacation!

Incase you’re like @surreyblonde: “Im a bit like a fish out of water so to speak for todays topic as I’ve never been” do as @ZoeStarlet: ” I’ve never been to the Bahamas, but after this discussion I imagine I’ll want to start packing my bags!”

Here are the questions:

Q1. What makes the Bahamas a place you want to vacation?

  • @KumukaBlog: Duh! It’s got a beach!
  • @GRobin: When it’s -20C in Toronto in February, That’s when I’d want to go to #bahamas
  • @museyon: Not feeling guilty about starting your day off with a pina colada (it counts as a fruit there)
  • @LandLopers: the Bahamas are great because you can be as active as you want or you can just lay back and relax
  • @rishegee: Rum. Local rum. Cheap rum. Glorious RUM!
  • @aviewtoathrill: 1. Peace & Quiet, 2. Quiet & Peace, 3. Peace, 4. Quiet

Q2. Ever been to a Bahamas Island outside of Nassau? Why or why not?

  • @BustersTravels: Freeport on Grand Bahama. Again, beautiful beaches and a very extensive straw market
  • @danthompson: 2 haven’t been to the bahamas yet, BUT I have been to Turks and Caicos, which is just 25mi south. That count?
  • @MidlifeRoadTrip: Haven’t island hopped “yet”
  • @StayAdventurous: to Paradise Island… who doesn’t want to see a place called paradise…
  • @ZipSetAndrea:  There are about 700 island in The Bahamas… who knew?

Q3. What do you look for most in a beach destination?

  • @RobertKCole: Sand & Water. The more sand & clearer water, the better
  • @sillyamerica: Mild weather. I don’t like going out when its too hot! I like my air conditioning then
  • @whereisyvette: I’m also a beachcomber for seashells- sand is nice but boring if that’s all there is!
  • @WanderngAramean: Good diving. Soft sand. Wide beach. And good diving.
  • @passportpocket: Unspoiled beaches, low crime, lots o water activities, R&R.. Oh & can’t forget BBCs (you know, Baileys, Banana, Colada?)
  • @Globetrooper: Watersports! jet skis, parasailing, cheap cocktails, cheap massages, good beer, clear waters, 30+ temp
  • @jenriosburns:  No speedos.
  • @global_gourmet Someone to apply SPF to those hard to reach spots ; )

Q4. Which water activity do you most enjoy on vacation?

Q5. Best place to stay in the Bahamas?

Q6. Family resort vacation: organized activities or just beaches? Why?

  • @GoBIG_GoHome: We’re really hoping to get to the @Atlantisresort in the #Bahamas
  • @SEASunDodger: Seeing as how I’m most concerned about swim-up bar options… Family resorts aren’t REALLY on the radar… ;-
  • @BustersTravels I always like to do a day of both. I love organized activities when I’m new to a location, but I also love to just relax.
  • @GRobin: No kids within 20 kms, no organized activities, no high rises, golf courses, casinos. Beach, great food, champagne, tunes
  • @CGTravels: Activities, definitely. Beach is good for about a day…then I’ve had it with sand, kinda
  • @danthompson: Self made adventures… I like that!
  • @CravenTravels: Shark petting @ Atlantis for the kids…Oooops no more kids…
