This week’s topic on Traveler’s Night In, a “tweet-up” for travelers, was Libations. Ten questions were asked, tagged #TNI, and afterwards I was ready to book my next trip to try all the exotic drinks around the world! There were several trends that kept coming up today, #TNIer’s LOVE wine, beer, sangria- you name it- they’ll drink it! (Everything- except crazy drinks with blood in them!)
Here are the questions:
Q1. Where are you spending New Year’s eve? Drink?
- @TravelsceneUSA Here in LA. Going to a party where we celebrate each guest’s country NY. Australia is first at 7pm… #TNI

Q2. Favorite wine region? Best bottle?
- @candicewalsh Maybe Bordeaux, or maybe the $5 bottles my roommate brews in the kitchen. Yeah, those.

Q3. Best bar in the world? What makes it great?

Q4. Locals that are the most fun to share a drink with?
- @LandLopers Easy, the Scottish. They can outlast the Aussies, although it gets harder to understand them as night goes on
- @museyon Scots if you can understand them, Germans during Oktoberfest and Aussies, always.
- @ancientfirewine Montreal. More friendly conversations over drinks than any other place I can remember.
- @kirsten_al Capt. Tony’s Saloon in @keywest is a pretty wild place. I may or may not have added my bra to the ceiling.
- @eorawrs8 Totally India! Ended up dancing to Lady Gaga and Bollywood remixes with local Muslims breaking faston Eid. Super friendly!
Q5. Best brewery? Location?
- @BeenThereWear Eggenberg Brewery, Cesky Krumlov CZ. Right behind the real brewery there is a little shack for locals: Amazing travel experience #tni
- @ytravelblog Guinness brewery in Dublin and Coors brewery in Denver#TNI
- @corktobelfast Best brewery: just don’t live next to one like I did in Ireland. They can smell good, but they also put out some stank!
- @steffydechina Every small privately owned brewery in Heidelberg, Germany. thank God there is a whole street full of them!
- @treyfliehs: Boulevard Brewing Company. Made in Kansas City and all of their beers are awesome!
Q6. Craziest night out? Drink? Destination?
- @CGTravels There was Florence…there was the Arno River…there was limoncello…I can’t talk about it….
- @OffTrackPlanet One drink says it all: AGUA DE VALENCIA. Cava, orange juice, vodka, gin and sugar. Can’t taste the alcohol. That’s a start..
- @BootsnAll Toss up between dancing till 5am in Reykjavik, all-night drinking w/ new Irish friends in Dublin & crashing wedding in Cartagena
- @travelgirlmag Puerto Vallerta w ZipSetGo girls – tequila shots, bottle of vodka may have been consumed, men were picked up, cages were entered.
- @FrancescaMaz My 21st birthday. Canberra, Australia. Did 30 shots at a bar w/ a bunch of Americans. Lived to tell about it.
Q7. Which country throws the best party?
- @thetripchicks #Brazil throws the best party
- @Banff_Squirrel: Have to go with Ireland. That whole St. Patricks thing was a real gift to the world

- @VectorYou I’m 10 min. from the beach in FL, so I’d have to say a Corona with two limes!!
- @Vagabond3Live We love Sangria- white or red, so delicious!
- @lauramartone Mojitos are my fave. Lime, sugar, mint, soda water, and rum – who could ask for more?
Q9. Most unusual drink you’ve encountered while traveling?
- @Intoxabroad Snakes blood/bile mixed with rice whiskey in Hanoi, vietnam
- @1Dad1Kid Some drink with blood in it. No, I didn’t try it!
- @leorawrs81 Habu sake from Japan. Poisonous snake fermenting in rice wine. The snake is supposed to have “medicinal” properties…
- @zwei2go I encountered a flaming drink in a club in Tier, Germany. I forget the name of it!
- @GAT_ChinaTours The weirdest named ones was in Beijing- Hard Sex on the Babysitter’s floor. I have no idea what was in it, but it tasted good.
