This week’s topic on Traveler’s Night In, a “tweet-up” for travelers, was Romantic Retreats. Ten questions were asked, tagged #TNI, and afterwards I wanted to plan my next romantic vacation with Bob because as @seasundodger so perfectly put it, “Finding love when traveling is easy-You’re the happiest version of yourself.”
Here are the questions:
Q1. Most romantic tropical destination? Why?
- @WldTrvlBill Rio is sooo sexy & romantic but crowded. St John, USVI is secluded and cozy
- @AndiPerullo Buzios, Brasil…no place comes close in my book! Sexiness just oozes from every corner of the place
- @FrancescaMaz Hubs & I found Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica, to be quite romantic
- @hopandjaunt The barely inhabited island of Los Testigos off of Vez. Beautiful water, giant sea turtles and about a dozen ppl in total
- @hiptraveler Most romantic tropical destination? I enjoyed St. Bart’s, Anguilla, Zanzibar (spice island of Africa), & Bali (island of the gods)
- @SeaFox4 I love Zanzibar. Blend of fascinating culture, perfect white sand, and some seclusion
Q2. Build a resort’s signature romance package. Inclusions?
- @ACarlton Chocolate-covered strawberries, bubble bath, candlelight dinner, massage, room service
- @asmallplace An ocean view, big windows, lots of light, a breeze. A well stocked bar!
- @redhunttravel Snorkeling, waterfalls and a sunset dinner on a private beach, or better yet, private island
- @traveldesigned champagne flowers, chocolate, covered strawberries,scented bath salts,breakfast in bed… in the shower, in the jacuzzi :))
- @itchyfeet_kg No children within a 10 mile radius
Q3. Most romantic restaurant? Why?
- @foodieintl Chicago’s #Alinea. You get to play with your food (bite by bite) for 4 blissful hours
- @thecitizeNY Romance was alive at SHO, Setei, NYC. Downtown Broad St. Dimly lit, cozy seating, exquisite menu/wines. We loved it!
- @BtrVacationRent In Rincon Costa Rica on the sand. Fish with Island Sauce & can’t remember name. Der Fondue Chessel on top Keystone Mtn CO
- @ilovebellyrubs McDonald’s drive-thru in a stretch limo doesn’t count
- @AllTravelSites a cozy little Italian joint that has just 6 tables, but the best pasta
Q4. Perfect song to set the mood for a romantic getaway?

- @ugandatravel I’d rather hear sounds from outside – ocean waters, breezes, etc. Way more romantic to me.

Q5. Best destination wedding location? Why?
- @hotelilconvento Easy: by the sea or with sea view. I’m in Naples so best places are Costiera Amalfitana, Sorrento, Capri, Ischia
- @MiddleSeatView Italy… the whole country is just so romantic! I think it’s the carbs
- @kermode an ice hotel wedding in Quebec or Sweden!
- @YUShouldTravel Strawberry Hill, Jamaica
- @MoonlightBasin A place where the whole wedding party can have a good time too!
- @LandLopers Amalfi Coast would be amazing. small wedding, beautiful setting
Q6. Travelers looking for love…best destination for singles?
- @TravelsceneUSA Italy, everyone falls in love in Italy. It’s a national pastime.
- @dianalynnnguyen Wherever. Singles seem to attract other singles everywhere! Bars help
- @worldswaiting There were always lots of singles in Turkish tourist resorts when I lived there!
- @MoonGuides Vegas, Jamaica, Paris, Rio, there are lots of places but these come to mind first
- @JustTravelous men: thailand women: jamaica oh wait.
Q7. Dream vacation with your significant other?
- @FunAsWeGO Italy! #Venice to be exact
- @CruisinDoc: A LONG cruise to anywhere! At least 10 nights
- @JaclynLiechti Just planned New Orleans with my BF, and super excited for an Outer Banks beach vacay with him this summer!
- @christinenspain Driving from Spain up the Mediterranean coastline to Paris would be lovely. Or island-hopping in Croatia
- @friedman_rachel Paris. I’ve been dropping hints to my husband for going on three years now, so one of these days
- @karindumaire: Dream vacation is a round-the-world trip (again). That’s when you really get to know eachother
Q8. Best advice for keeping the spark alive post-vacation?
- @aseper Don’t unpack your bags and hop back on a plane?
- @BBC_Travel Start planning your next trip!
- @AdvBimbling Put together a photo album
- @travelgirlmag Fix your favorite drink from the trip and go from there
- @travelpology Bring back a bottle of wine for a date night.
- @Shipsandtrips Keep spark alive by getting away as much as possible! Even just a weekend or a night
Q9. Romantic travel gone awry – tell us your horror stories.
- @mobilelawyer Went on a blind date weekend to Cabo. My date ended up sleeping with one of the locals. Good story though.
- @MalloryOnTravel Only possible one is when I just attract too much female attention and have to let them down politely and thoughtfully! 😉
- @travelwithamate Getting a bad sickness bug, then my wife getting it 5 hours latter. fun times!
- @amberdegrace Husband dropped and broke our camera in a waterfall while hiking the day before our wedding in St. Lucia
- @kelleyferro Being told in Istanbul that we were DEF NOT getting on the plane as standby. I used every trick in the book & we did

Q10. Last-minute travel gift ideas for your Valentine?
- @WriterChick47 After reading answers to the last question, I’d say antacids, anti-diarrhea meds and lots of sunscreen
- @Travelated I have always wanted to buy my bf something ridiculous from the in-flight magazines…
- @ZipSetAndrea Tango lessons, followed by a trip to Buenos Aires! That’s what I want, at least
- @katyabroad this Valentine’s I’m going to the Swiss Alps with my other single girlfriends – perfect escape from the romantic madness
- @ctccct A weekend city break or a foodie/wine B&B trip in the country ^ML
