Go ahead and give me girlfriend of the year award because this Valentine’s Day, I knocked it out of the park!
On Monday, I decided to plan an entire day where we hung out, could bring the dogs and eat an awesome lunch all somewhere we had never been before. I had read about a few hikes in Malibu that had gorgeous ocean views, waterfalls and ruins. (Yes, ruins in Malibu- it doesn’t get much more romantic than that, my friends!) We slept in, piled the dogs in the car and drove to Malibu. It was an absolutely perfect day. The sun was shining, there was a cool breeze in the air and no traffic!
We made a quick stop at Cafe Habana to grab lunch to-go and after reading about this place on Yelp, it did not disappoint! (If you live in NYC, there is another location there. Tip- order the Cuban or the Pull Pork Sandwich because they were the best sandwiches I have ever had!) While I wouldn’t call this place fast food at all, it was an easy 5-7 minutes wait for our sandwiches and after tasting them, I would have waited 20 minutes! Oh, and the fries were seasoned just right, too.
We headed north about three miles and came to Corral Canyon Road. It’s a pretty easy hike to get to and there was plenty of parking in the lot. (Yelp members did mention that it gets busy on the weekends, especially in the Spring, so arrive earlier in the day for the best spot.) When we parked at Solstice Canyon, Bob had figured out what we were doing but still had no idea about the ruins or the waterfall. The hike is a fairly easy one with only one area really having a hard incline. The ruins came up first, pretty cool area where there had been a fire and the families choose to leave the brick areas alone. The waterfall was at the end of the loop, and compared to barely seeing anyone else on the trail, was the most crowded part of the day. (Even saying that though, there were maybe two other couples!)
I decided to wear simple jeans and a plaid shirt… maybe it was the hiking and being outdoors, but I felt like a cowgirl! Bob said I looked cute and that’s really all that matters- especially on Valentine’s Day! How did you spend the day?
