Traveler’s Night In: The Emerald Isle

This week’s topic on Traveler’s Night In, a “tweet-up” for travelers, was The Emerald Isle.  Ten questions were asked, tagged #TNI, and afterwards I was ready to pack my bags, grab a pint of Guinness and dance a jolly Irish Jig! Hope you were tweeting in green, if not- a big ole pinch from the twitterverse!

Q1. How will you be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day? Where?

  • @LodgeatDoonbeg Dublin – Watch a game of Hurling at Croke Park, Pint at the Guinness Storehouse, 9th Centuary book of Kells at Trinity College
  • @wheresandrew Biking through Dolphin’s Barn at night. That’s fun & #Irish & I’ve done it. Also, visiting Trinity University.
  • @ehalvey Book of Kells, Chester Beatty, Museum of Archaeolgy. Then Guinness Factory for sure:
  • @WindStarCruises Go to Temple Bar district and try a traditional Irish breakfast (including black and white pudding)

Q6. Irish towns that are not to be missed? Why?

  • @shipsandtrips: Go to Belfast and take black cab tour to see the IRA and Protestant murals. Sad, but history oft is
  • @thetraveltweet Mentioned Doolin near the Cliffs of Mohr and also Cong which is near where Quiet Man was filmed
  • @InAForeignLand Cahir castle near Cashel is a nice stopover between Kilkenny or Cork…. like a jungle-gym of a castle!
  • @greganscastle Ennistymon in County Clare for it’s old shopfronts. Doolin for the music. Galway for arts and culture.
  • @CGTravels Kilronan in Aran Islands – so beautiful! As long as u don’t want to do anything after 7p (you know, aside from drink)

  • @MiraCristine Croagh Patrick
  • @pamstucky Dun Aengus on Inishmore. Puts U on the edge of space & time.
  • @alexberger Cliffs of Moher. More natural feeling than the Giants Causeway. Loved it
  • @heliyes The GPO in Dublin and the bullet holes in the walls from the Easter uprising.
  • @corktobelfast Cliffs of Moher, Ring of Kerry, Rock of Cashel, anywhere with a sunset.
  • @jbranigan Without a question, Dun Aenghus at sundown!

Q8. Souvenir everyone should bring back from Ireland?
