Living across the country from my brother leads to many text conversations about life. Our latest exchange had to do with Christmas presents and what each of our significant others wanted for the holidays. We both sent the same response- we wanted nothing. ‘Don’t get us anything’, we each texted back and forth. Then jokingly, I said, ‘actually, let’s all go on vacation. The best Christmas present could be a Mexican vacation with plenty of beach time, cold margaritas and sandals being the footwear of choice.’ We both agreed that sounded like a fantastic idea.
A few years ago, my parents, their best friends, my brother and his fiance, and Bob and myself all flew from our respective airports and met at an all-inclusive in Puerto Vallarta. It was one of the best trips of my life. Besides loving Mexico and enjoying some incredible snorkeling, I loved spending so much time with my family away from home. No one had work to run off and do, and none of the normal life situations popped up. It was just sunny Mexico and us. Ever since then, Mexico is my happy place. The place that I can’t wait to get back to with my family.
In fact, Mexico has many happy memories for us. It was where we shot our first Travel Channel show in Cancun, where we went to the turtle sanctuary and went for a dip in a cenote. Loreto, located on the Sea of Cortez, was another eye opening experience, where we jumped off paddle boards and went clam diving. And in Puerto Vallarta, we saw blue footed boobies and swam with sharks.
